Ryan Houmard stops Davey Adams in SoCal Super Street Series Opener at Famoso Dragstrip

Ryan Houmard captured the first win of the 33rd season of the SoCal Super Street Association at the season-opening Valarie Houmard Memorial Race held at Famoso Dragstrip.

BAKERSFIELD, CA- Ryan Houmard opened the 33rd season of the Southern California Super Street Association presented by Able Wire EDM series by defeating Davey Adams in the final round of the season-opening Valarie Houmard Memorial Race held at famed Famoso Dragstrip. It was a special honor for Ryan to win the event in memory of his Mother Valarie, who passed away a few years ago. Valarie was an avid Super Street racer who always supported this association.

Qualifying was led by Paul Giacalone's ’55 Chevy with a perfect 10.900 (10.90 index), followed by Adams at 10.903, reigning series champ Kenny Snow ran 10.910 with his Chevelle, and Mike Blodgett Jr was fourth with a 10.913.

Houmard opened eliminations with a 10.915 to defeat Dennis Blehm's Nova, he stopped David Boner in round two on a double-breakout match, and he used a .001 reaction time to defeat 2014 series champ John Castro in the quarterfinals before getting a bye into the final round. Adams made his way to the finals with round wins over 2019 series champion Kevin Houmard, Kristine Cloud, he got a bye in round three, and defeated top qualifier Giacalone in the semifinals with a 10.901 to a 10.87.

Houmard drove his ’64 Chevy Nova to the winner's circle and picked-up a $2000.00 winner's check after posting a final round 11.319 seconds, 115.44 mph as Adams had mechanical failure and slowed to 11.610, 102.05.

The Pizazz Racing-sponsored second event of the weekend was postponed due to rain, with plans to reschedule for the weekend of May 19-21, at Bakersfield.
